The warmth of the bonfire beckoned him. It was an irresistible call. His cold soul wanted to stay there, just for another minute. “What harm will be done?” He wondered. His blue eyes glinted a little, his frozen heart thawed a little. He had pledged not to think about the past. But as his fingers got warm, his heart did too.
That night, he renounced everything and left for the quest. The brutal night, when he killed men and women, grown-ups and children. He won a kingdom but lost his soul. After the storm was over, the silence prevailed. After the war, the peace prevailed. His mind knew no peace, for it had sinned. Standing amidst thousand of dead bodies, he decided he would not sit on the throne. He would be cursed if he did. So, he left everything that he had fought for. His old beliefs died that second. Throwing his armor and sword, he left without looking back, without bidding any adieus.
He walked alone and had come far away. He never stopped, until now. His heavy heart almost shattered. What he did before, during and after the war- it was all wrong. He knew he would go back, take the onus of what had happened and mend it; for the people who fought for him, for the people who died for him… and for the people who lived in hope that one day he would return.
*INcase you have been wondering. Yes, it is inspired by GOT.

I must be the only person on this planet who isn’t into GOT. Haven’t even got close to seeing it. But I loved the imagery of your story. Goes well with the prompt.
After the way it ended, I won’t recommend GOT. I am glad that you enjoyed the imagery. Thank you

Nice story. He is relinquishing all, his victory, his kingdom all for inner peace!
He realizes that he was an escapist. He needs to go back and face the consequences. Thank you, Abhijit
