She realized that the disembodied voice had become her voice. Her voice was little crocky, but now it has become mellifluous. Yet, she hated it. She didn’t want to hum a song or say a word, for that matter. She was scared of her own voice.  She had been tormented in her dreams every night by the voice.

What she used to hear outside, was now coming from inside her. It seemed she had two voices now and they were arguing with each other all the time, in that unknown voice. She feared going out.. she feared to stay alone… she was afraid to keep living like this. It seemed the discarnate voice had found a home, but she wasn’t ready to leave her abode.

She was in a kind of fugue state. The memories of past were slowly dripping. Some were blurry and some vivid, some known and some unknown. She wished she had a strainer to separate the two. But her wishes were muddled by the wicked wishes. Wishes she didn’t want to hear, yet her own brain was planning something. A sinister plan, brewing inside her, which she didn’t have a control over. She was the witness as well as the planner.  How was she going to explain it to anyone?

The voice had fragmented her happy memories with the corrupt ones. She was chanting spells she had no knowledge of. How to put a stop to it?

Despite being distraught, she didn’t let the tears come out of her blue eyes. Yet, a tiny teardrop escaped her stinging eyes. She needed to sleep but she was too afraid to sleep.

She needed to visit the washroom. She hobbled across the room and stepped inside the bathroom. The fogged mirror was waiting for her to wipe it once again. She knew that she didn’t have a choice. With her pulse beating in her ears, she wiped the mirror with her trembling hands.

What she saw… left her aghast. A wrinkly hand wiped the mirror from the other side. The eyes that stared back were brown droopy eyes…

      1. I, agree. After reading the first part, never saw it coming. You’ve knack for writing horror it seems. Don’t abort it altogether. I’m a big sucker for horror-genre. 🙂

    1. And forgot to say that you are bang on, fugue is psychiatric disorder
It’s sort of reversible amnesia, where memory drips back slowly. That’s what I tried to portray.

  1. Priya, you have not only built up the drama but also kept it riveting! So the disembodied voice has taken over!! I liked the subtle way in which you have described the transformation of the person – blue eyes and wrinkly hands. Is there a Voice 3…would want to know what happens next!!

    1. Voice 3 … Never thought about it. Tempting idea though.
Yes and no. To her the fear is very real. Part 1 I have tried describing it from her point of view and while the part 2 from the psychiatrist’s pov.
