The End.

“Why?” Sagar asked, looking at his bloody hands.

Raima didn’t make an eye-contact as she was busy typing on her laptop.

“Go and wash your hands. Then we will talk.” She spoke between typing.

“Look at my hands, still dripping blood.” He was shocked at her indifference.

“I told you to wash your hands, till then I will finish this.” She replied peeping through her glasses and gestured towards her laptop.

“Answer me now.”  Raising his voice, he demanded.

“I know patience is not your virtue but can you give me ten minutes?” She asked adjusting her spectacles.

“Of course it’s not. Who knows me better than you?” He asked rhetorically.

He didn’t budge so she stopped typing and said, “Wash your hands if it bothers you so much”.

“The blood doesn’t bother me… murdering her does..” His voice trembled.

He asked with tears in his eyes, “Why did you ask me to kill her? You could have helped me patch things up.”

“Sit down.” Removing her glasses she said.

Sagar sat down and waited for her to speak. She took a moment to clear her thoughts before asking, “Why did you kill her?”

“Because you asked me to..”, he started but she interjected.

“I didn’t ask you. You were in a situation when you came to me. She cheated on you. I told you that there were two choices- move on or take revenge. I never suggested that you kill her.” She spoke in a flat tone.

“You visited others before you came to me, right?” She asked.

He nodded in reply.

“What did they tell you?” She asked.

“Nothing.” He answered looking at his hands.

“I listened to your story. And you blame me?” Crossing her arms, she asked.

“You think you are the God. Don’t you?” He asked, despite knowing that she was the God, to him.

She smiled, “I don’t need to answer that. You will be popular, soon. That’s what you want. And that’s what you deserve.”

Wearing her spectacles, she went back to her story- He loved her. His jealousy was stronger than his love. In the spur of the moment, he lost himself and lost everything that mattered to him. Now, he will have to live without her for the rest of his life, and that’s what he deserves. THE END.

And with those final words- he vanished.

  1. Wow..this story feels surreal. She made up the character. My only question is did he really come to life or she was just talking to him in her mind like many writers do? I recently saw a movie where the writer brings to life a character just by writing about her. She does as he demands of her through writing.

    1. He didn’t come to life.. she was talking to him while writing. Spectacles were used as a metaphor to show that the writer had limited perspective. once she took them off, she tried to understand him. Eventually she wrote him off.
      Thank you, Anshu.

  2. I wonder if writers actually live with their characters and converse with them in this way? Whenever I write fiction I put myself in the shoes of the character. This is something else though. 🙂
And yes, I agree that a dark story which has him killing her and being left alone will make him popular.

    1. I am not sure about others. But I love talking to my characters in my head. I like to know what their likes and dislikes are. Especially for a long story. I try to understand them. Of course, the characters don’t come to life or anything but I often wonder what if they have their own little world and how as a writer we have the power to change their life.
