The three gloomy men sit in silence, holding their glasses. Strange enough, they haven’t taken a sip yet.
“To our destiny…”, finally the wise one raise his glass.
This evening is not like any other. Tomorrow they will not see the sun, quite literally.
The earth, they hear, will go rogue. Whether earth gets embraced by another welcoming star or not, it all depends on earth’s ”Destiny”.
This post is written for Friday Fictioneer hosted by Rochelle.
wow so is it their end or earth’s end?

Odds are not in their favor. Earth may survive. Life on earth, as we know it, may not.

Atmospheric. Should “The earth, they hear, will go rouge” be “The earth, they hear, will go rogue”?

Fixed. Thank you, Neil. Appreciate it.

I like the idea of the Earth going rogue, like it’s had enough of all our nonsense and decides to just leave! 🙂

The rogue planet, Theia collided with Earth. There are 100,000 more rogue planets than stars in our galaxy alone.
Earth may very well become a rogue planet, for all we know hopefully in a very very distant future. Thanks, Iain, for reading and commenting.

Life would have long ceased to exist before the sun shuts shop. But, this is a meditative piece Priya. We should only take a long, hard look at ourselves and our choices.

It is scary to think that one day it will all end… the earth, the Sun.
I often wonder if we know our purpose yet or if we have any purpose at all.

You prompt us to think hard about the nature of wisdom with this story of an extreme situation. “To our destiny,” is about the only wise response you can make. Well done!

I have a mental picture of earth suddenly giving a massive shake, dumping all its inhabitants into space, and racing off to a better galaxy 🙂

When a planet goes rogue (due to some event), it just stops orbiting the star, and sets off into the deep dark space. Hopefully, it won’t happen, in another billion year.

I have read that the nice stable orbits that we see are relatively recent, that in the deep, deep distant past (billions of years) the planets may have “gone rogue”. If a star or something came close enough, it is still possible our orbit could be dislodged. Hmmm, hope it doens’t happen any time in the next couple of billion years 😉 Interesting story.

Planets do go rogue, due to various reasons. I was intrigued by the rogue planet called Theia which hit Earth billions of years ago. Thank you, Rochelle.
