Prompt for this week – We have a situational prompt this week. A magical mirror to peek into another realm/ world. Write your story and click on the frog to link your story.
The Red Berries
Alone I walk, into the jungle in search of the berries.
“They would make you immortal.” The witch had spoken with her hand on my weak heart. My heart had failed me, and I don’t mean in a philosophical way, I mean it literally failed me.
I’m dying. Those berries are the last hope of this dying middle-aged man. As I was saying, I walk in the dark jungle. I see a mirror on the ground in the middle of a jungle. Isn’t it odd? It piques my interest and I pick it. It’s an antique mirror it seems, difficult to make out my reflection. Ouch! Its sharp edge cut me deep. A blood-drop falls on the surface of the mirror. And my reflection becomes clear. I look healthy in the reflection.
I notice I’m holding something red. It’s those berries the old witch told me about. How do I get them? Longing to touch it, I touch the reflection. My hand vanishes inside. Is it a portal? I allow the mirror to take me in. And there it is, the tree bearing the fruit that I desire. I pluck some berries and taste them. The goodness of the berries transforms me. I look healthy. I am elated.. dancing out of joy. I won’t die. As I look back to find the mirror which brought me here. It has vanished.
Ah! I don’t know what is worse; to be unhealthy or be stuck in this realm with tasty & healthy berries?
