Panting, he asks me, “what time?” I notice him breathing fast, his heart pounding. I can hear his heartbeat. It narrates a story. A story that reveals his secrets.

He looks sad and relieved, I figure. His train has left. I look at another train leaving another platform. And then I look at the station clock. Why doesn’t he look at the clock? I don’t know. Maybe his watch doesn’t match with the station’s and he wants to check with someone. Why me? It could have been anyone. It is just a coincidence, yet we like to believe we are too important, that we look friendly or approachable. Or he just asks the first person he sees after he notices his train has left.

I love the station clock, you get to see “time” from all the directions. It’s what people look at. Funnily enough, they are looking at something they are running against. And expect it to tell the truth so that they can defeat it.

My worldly cloak is confusing. They feel that I’m one of them. I look like them, the height, the limbs. And I know their language. I allow them to believe the lie.
At another platform…Another train comes… another goes. I look at him, he is still waiting for my answer. He is still panting, for him only a second has passed. I decide to tell him the truth. He can decide whether he wants to believe the truth or not. I reply mimicking his polite fake smile, “Time, my friend, is a myth!”
