The bones and the skulls don’t make up for a beautiful backdrop. Standing there posing, while the deads look at you some tilting their heads, some holding their own skulls on their palms.
“Why do we get scared? No biggies”, my own words from the previous day reverberated in my ears. But the fear knows no logic. Somehow, what doesn’t look creepy in broad daylight, can give you a heart attack at night.
The catacombs were filled with millions of skeletons. It was one thing to put the skeletons in there, it was another to stack them neatly.
“I’m bone tired. Why are we here again?” Raising my eyebrow, I asked.
“I thought you said we all are made up of bones and skull. No biggies. Right?” Sam mimicked me.
“A. I don’t sound like that. B. Don’t do that ever again. And C. I’m done” I turned to leave. but he pulled me closer to him.
“You know how much I love you?” He asked me.
I could feel his breath on my skin. His confession was worth the claustrophobic horror, so I nodded in reply.
“Will you be mine, till we turn like them…”He asked.
“Is this a proposal or a threat?” I chuckled.
“Threat… proposal.. yes.. absolutely.. proposal.. ” he said.
“If this is your proposal, then I’m screwed for life,” I replied, taking his hand in mine.
“Wait, is that a ‘yes’?” he asked.
The millions of dead were witness to our love saga as he slipped the ring in my boney finger.
And just like that we spent the entire night talking to each other promising to be together till death do us apart.
