Sia counts the lamps on the water & the stars in the dark sky. She wishes upon a buoyant lamp and a shooting star.
She remembers- once she wrote a poem, ‘Hope & Expectations’, on a lamp. She set the loaded lamp in the placid water. Soon the heavy lamp sunk, along with it sunk her hope.
Today she writes just one word – ‘belief’. She has tears of joy when she sees the lamp fighting the waves.
She smiles if the lamp can.. so can she.

Your story is a lovely blend of joy and sadness. You led me to wonder what secret grief Sia was carrying. It felt good that she was happy when her lamp ‘fought the waves’.
Nicely written. It’s an ambitious story and your courage in tackling it has paid off.
Thanks, Penny. We all experience the weight of expectations. It’s so important to shed the weight.
Enjoyed writing this.
Hope and expectations can be a heavy burden, no wonder the lamp couldn’t carry it. Belief has very many possibilities. I love the uplifting ending.
