I set the table before they could arrive. Their coffee ready and labeled. I placed the muffins for they needed sweetness to gossip bitterly.
I stood in the kitchen. After all, who likes to see the invisible maid?
Praising the brand, they sipped their coffees. I scoffed silently. An hour later they finished their coffee and left. I came out and declared, “that was their last cups of joe.”
The hostess took a sip of her tea and smiled to see her partner in crime. As I cleared the table, raising her cup she exclaimed, “excellent!” And I humbly bowed.

I loved “for they needed sweetness to gossip bitterly”
I’m glad. Thank you, Neil. 🙂
Ah, an accessory to her boss’s crime! Wicked tale.
Who knows who the real boss is? Thanks, Iain.
I liked that phrase too! “needed sweetnes…”
Of course, I bet you the maid will end up alone in being prosecuted should it come to that…
I’m glad you liked the line. I didn’t think much of it when I wrote it. But I’m glad you guys like it.
Thank you, Dale.
So very nice when we write something that resonates… 🙂

Harrowing tale!

Thanks, Lisa
“needed sweetness to gossip bitterly” is an excellent way to putting it. One more reason to drink tea instead 😉
That’s what I had in my mind. I’m a Tea-lover too. 😀
Thanks, Subroto

“they needed sweetness to gossip bitterly” wonderful line and a devious plan.
Thank you. I’m glad it resonated with you.
Loved it totally. Very crisp, very apt. Perfect ending to a perfect tale.
Thank so much, Vidhi. I’m glad you liked it.
Poisoning coffee, bot maid and hostess hand in glove! Why such enmity?
I’m sure they have their reasons. Maybe will tap onto their psychology someday. Thanks, Abhiray.

Dear Priya,
It sounds like something of a conspiracy. Nicely done. The story I mean. 😉

Lol! Thank you so much, Rochelle. 🙂
Seriously, who wants to see the maid!! Loved this thought – they needed sweetness to gossip bitterly! Excellent Priya
Thanks so much, Anshu. that line has become popular now 😉
I reckon a shot of sweetness truly does aid a nice bit of gossip. But not bitter gossip. Well told, Priya.
Thanks so much, Jilly.
